Weekdays with class go fast, and I don't have as much of a chance to do things. I also find myself rushing around alot, so I have less time for reflection. I had my best beer in Scotland today: Bel Haven's Best. Smooth and quite pleasant.Oh yes, my Camera is fixed! Starting this weekend, I will be setting aside some major time for photos.
Lecture was deep and intense today. Some of the undergrads looked like a car rolled over their bodies by the end. Afterwards, I had the oppurtunity to tour the George Heriot School. This private school is INCREDIBLLY beautiful. We talked to the principle of the High School and he gave us a great overview of Scotland's Educational system, though a bit brief on the public side. Then we toured the grounds; the school is all on the same grounds and has a population of just 1500. It is in a historic building with a courtyard and everything. It also has a chapel that was interesting to visit. Apparently, 24% of the students in Edinburgh are taught in private schools, which, for the not educators reading, is astronomically high. As a reference point, Britain as a whole, having a very robust private school tradition, is only 5%.
Attached are some other photos of the school. Tonight I'm either going on a Ghost Tour, or going to a folk club for some traditional music. Should be fun, then I need to do some work on my paper.
