Arthur's Seat at last

Ach, what a fine day. I woke up this morning with an Iron Bru style headache (some will know what I mean by that), and the birds were chirpin' away like mad. The weather was spectacular, however, and I was quite excited to scramble up Arthur's Seat as fast as I could. Not only did I climb the seat, but I also walked along the Salisbury Crags. I took MANY photos, of which 've posted twenty. Climbing was wonderful, and upon reaching the top of Arthur's seat (a extinct volcano I might add) the wind buffeted my nearly off the side. Upon graining the summit, however, I was struck by how small the city was. Perhaps this is just the effect of looking down on a city. I enjoyed taking pictures, and I'll have the twenty pictures labeled on the link to the right as soon as possible. One of the nifty little gems that I discovered was St. Antony's Chapel, which is a ruined 14th century chapel on the Holyrood Park grounds. I experimented with the timer delay with some success.

Afterwards, I went to the National Gallery to view paintings, and finally ended up in a Pub (called McEwan's which was brilliant) and tasted the best beer in Scotland to date: McEwan's 70 Shilling Ale. I am now going to go spend my evening working on my presentation and paper while I watch the movie "The Hours" as a enrichment activity after covering Mrs. Dolloway.

Enjoy the pictures (only twenty out of 70 are posted).

Scottish word/slang of the day
  • Rood -- "Criste died upon an oaken Rood"
An easy one today. A cross, specifically Christ's cross.

It must be a pretty great place as the beer has surpassed your expectations AGAIN! Sometimes, life just gets better and better. :)
